It is extremely easy to be captivated by the charm of the Lucanian Dolomites, by the soft and bizarre colors and shapes of the sandstone, by the atmospheres of other times that can be breathed in the medieval villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa, perched between towers and vertiginous peaks. Here is the kingdom of the black stork, the red kite and numerous birds of prey that nest undisturbed on the spiers and cliffs of these places. In some conditions of light and shadow the rock lets you see profiles of figures, animals and faces, giving space to the imagination. Immersed in this scenario, with an Alpine Guide, it is possible to travel two via ferratas which, with the help of Tibetan bridges, cables and steps, allow you to overcome canyons, walls and sharp ridges, reaching the top of the most characteristic villages of this incredible park. natural and counted among the most beautiful villages in Italy, guarded by a microcosm of stone that leaves you breathless.
It starts from the Path of the Seven Stones, the ancient sheep track that connected the two villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa. Once near a Roman bridge you can choose to go:
- The Via Ferrata Salemm reaches the upper part of Castelmezzano, climbing or going around in succession the towers that flank the town with long crossings on vertical walls and ridges that offer a unique view of the village and the valley.
Via ferratas are the most natural passage between trekking and climbing. Cables, steps, bridges and other artificial elements made on a wall, facilitate the ascent but on the more demanding via ferratas and less impact on the environment, the artificial elements are reduced to a minimum and a good climbing technique is also needed . It is rare that the via ferratas require mountaineering skills, but, in addition to the correct use of protective equipment, there may be difficulties due to the length of the route, the muscular commitment, the verticality and the exposure, i.e. the ability to tolerate the void under of oneself ... therefore IT IS FORBIDDEN TO SUFFER FROM VERTIGOS !!!
After a briefing on materials and technique, an Alpine Guide, the only qualified professional accompaniment on via ferrata, will guide you along these itineraries suspended between rocky walls and sharp ridges.
Important: from February 1st to May 31st the activity will be suspended due to the nesting of birds of prey

Mountain Guide - UIAGM Mountaineering Instructor, climbing instructor, bolter, operator and person in charge of work on ropes, with professional specialization in setting up climbing sites and via ferratas.
I promote climbing, multipitch, via ferrata, mountaineering and ski mountaineering courses and outings with Campania Mountain Guides.
I am the author of the guide Malopasso, Climbing in Campania and I manage the Mountain Pro S.r.l. which deals with consulting, design, construction and maintenance of via ferratas and climbing itineraries. I have been climbing since I was a child and I like to understand climbing and outdoor disciplines as a lifestyle, an excuse to travel and get to know other places in depth: from the villages of the Amalfi Coast to the 4000m peaks of the Alps.
The passion for the mountains, for my land and the work of a guide have led me over the years to discover and enhance most of Campania's climbing sites and to open about 1000 climbing routes including single pitch, multipitch and classic routes. I work with enthusiasm, more and more aware that I do the best job in the world in the most beautiful places in the world!
