DEPARTURES On request April / October

Discover the most important lakes in Abruzzo, the remote places of nature shaped by water over millions of years in the Abruzzo mountains. To make quality tourism in the Abruzzo nature by bicycle, small relaxation paradises between water and nature. The tour of the Upper Sangro lakes, between the Sagittario gorges and the course of the Sangro river.

1st day: Arrival in Scanno

Arrival in Scanno to meet the guide. Visit of the Borgo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy with a walk in the "romantic" village, also known as the photographers' village. Throughout the twentieth century, its unmistakable views and its people were the subjects of many famous shots by important photographers. Characteristic is the itinerary in the historic center called the "donut" which from the church of Santa Maria della Valle arrives at the Sarracco Fountain to then arrive at Piazza di San Rocco and return to the starting point via Via Silla and Via De Angelis. Possibility of a "heart" trek, about 2.5 hours, to see the lake from above with its characteristic heart shape. Dinner will be typical. Overnight.

2nd day: From Scanno to Pescasseroli.

Departure for the tour of the lakes of the upper Sangro crossing the village of Scanno, towards Villalago we will skirt the lake of Scanno (famous for its heart shape) and reach the village. From there we will arrive at the lake of San Domenico (possible visit to the Hermitage). Continue towards Anversa degli Abruzzi (for those who feel it can face the steep climb towards the village of Castrovalva famous for having inspired MC Escher, about 2 km). We continue towards the village of Cocullo and from there begins the climb that will make us "go over" the Marsican mountains to descend towards the heart of the Abruzzo National Park, Pescasseroli. Possible visit to the wildlife park. Arrival at the residence. Typical dinner. Overnight

KM stage: 63

Difference in altitude: 1415

3rd day: From Pescasseroli to Scanno.

From the Abruzzo National Park we will leave to follow the Sangro river which will accompany us to Villetta Barrea and the lake of the same name. We will flank the Val Fondillo as far as Opi, among green and luxuriant beech woods, Pescasseroli together with Opi marks the border of the Marsica with the Alto Sangro and the Cinque Miglia plateau. Once in Civitella Alfedena, we will go around the lake (possible encounter with the very numerous deer in this area) to tackle the climb that will lead us to Passo Godi. From there the descent into the mountains loved by Pope John Paul II (Pope Wojtyla) who in these areas loved to walk incognito.

KM stage: 54

Difference in altitude: 898

Once in Scanno, possibility of a shower, end of services and departure.

What To Bring

The right "attitude": with the right attitude you are ready to face everything! Whether you are leaving for a self-guided tour, as a group, as a couple, with your family, the right attitude is the first thing to put in your backpack, leaving your "thoughts" at home!
A robust and “trusted” bicycle. It is essential to start with the right vehicle, suitable for facing days of intense use on all kinds of roads ... without falling apart! Maybe your beloved city bike is not the right vehicle for this task? Do not be afraid! With us you can always rent a comfortable bicycle suited to your needs and the chosen route. But even those who do not want to abandon their faithful vehicle are welcome! Finally, if you really don't want to work too hard… we always have E-Bikes available.
Waterproof jacket and pants, sun protection. We can organize everything for your trip… but aihmè we can't do anything for the time. So keep an eye on the weather forecast and always carry a waterproof jacket / cape and trousers, sunscreen cream and several layers of clothes suitable for the period (plan to dress "onion").
Sportswear. Provide cycling pants or underwear (padded) when you get off the bike at the end of the day you will be happy with them! Prefer long trousers for trekking with high socks and of suitable material according to the season. Especially if you have chosen a mountain tour, don't forget a roomy and comfortable backpack, with everything you need to face any adversity and lots of water. (water bottle, headgear, gloves, changing clothes, glasses, etc.)
Sports shoes and helmet. Comfortable sports shoes for cycling and short excursions, waterproof trekking or snow shoes. The use of a helmet is not mandatory in all countries, but for your own safety, it is better not to get on the saddle without adequate head protection. Especially for the little ones! The same recommendation applies for skiing.

Bikelife

BIKELIFE live your passion, was born with the intention of PROMOTING the TERRITORY with BIKE (bicycle tourism) and TREKKING, as very valid elements and tools of territorial knowledge and promotion.

Going by bicycle and / or on foot in your free time, for a simple day trip or for a holiday, is beautiful and fun, it allows you to do some healthy movement and, if in nice company, to socialize. You immerse yourself in nature, slowly discover the riches of the territory, visit the natural, cultural and artistic beauties. There are pleasant and unexpected encounters with locals or other hikers, tasting the local eno-gastronomic specialties. For everyone, perhaps after having dissolved a bit of "rust", it also becomes a very pleasant physical experience, for the more "sporty" it is a great challenge and fun to progressively lengthen kilometers and altitudes.

And the more you have, the more you put.

These are certainly (but if we want many others), the "elements" that give personal pleasure and therefore "passion" to carry out, at all levels, this kind of activity that BIKELIFE obviously "advertises" in order to entice people who do not they still tried them. People who, among other things, …
